Pre-season is behind us and the rugby season is finally here. The past few months have been productive, with a variety of sessions keeping the squad sharp and plenty of players buying in as September approached. Despite summer holidays and other commitments, numbers have steadily grown, giving the squad strong momentum heading into the new campaign.
It's been particularly exciting to see a fresh mix in the squad, colts making the step up, lads returning from university, and a few familiar faces coming back after time away. The balance of youth and experience should give the team a real edge this year.
This Saturday sees us face a familiar foe in South Molton is always a tough opposition and a fixture Sarries look forward to. It's the perfect way to start the season, a challenge that will demand intensity, focus, and teamwork from the first whistle.
Co-Captain Wes Burden summed up the mood in the camp.
"Best time of the year, rugby season. Really excited to get back out on the pitch with the lads. It's great to see some new faces but its really great to see some lads returning to Sarries. We have had 2 solid seasons finishing 4th and with the squad we have, we really want to be pushing on this season and reaching our full potential. This will be my 7th season as captain and I am really looking forward to sharing the role with Levi this season as his attitude, commitment and performances have earned him this role. Up the Sarries!"
With back-to-back 4th place finishes, the squad is hungry to climb higher this year. The addition of new energy, the return of experience, and the shared leadership of Wes and Levi give plenty of reasons for optimism.
Kick-off is around the corner and time to put pre-season hard work into action. Up the Sarries!
